Getting started
Three steps, no referral needed in most cases. Here is what the path from searching to your first session actually looks like.
Search by town, county or ZIP and compare clinics on insurance accepted, protocols offered and real patient reviews.
Call the practice directly or send one short request and we pass it straight to clinics taking new patients.
A psychiatrist confirms you are a candidate, handles the insurance authorisation, and maps out your six-week course.

What TMS is
Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is an FDA-cleared, non-drug treatment for depression available across New Hampshire. Focused magnetic pulses stimulate the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, the brain region that regulates mood, during short outpatient sessions that require no anesthesia and no recovery time. Most people drive themselves to and from appointments and return straight to work.
Most New Hampshire clinics sit along the southern tier — Manchester, Nashua, Salem, Derry and Londonderry — with further clusters on the Seacoast around Portsmouth, Dover and Exeter, in Concord, and in the Upper Valley around Lebanon and Hanover. Residents of the Lakes Region, the Monadnock area and the North Country typically travel to one of those hubs, and some seek care just over the line in Massachusetts, Vermont or Maine.
No sleep medicine. No downtime. Most people drive home and go right back to work.
Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield New Hampshire, Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, Cigna, Aetna and Medicare all cover TMS for depression. You usually need to have tried other care first.
A standard course is 36 short visits. Some clinics offer faster plans that take days, not weeks.

Insurance
New Hampshire's major insurers cover TMS for major depressive disorder after documented failure of prior treatment. Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Hampshire, Harvard Pilgrim Health Care (Point32Health), Cigna, Aetna and UnitedHealthcare typically require trials of two to four antidepressants and, in many plans, a course of psychotherapy. New Hampshire Medicaid covers TMS through its managed care organizations — NH Healthy Families, AmeriHealth Caritas and Well Sense Health Plan — with prior authorization. Medicare covers TMS statewide under the National Government Services local coverage determination. Confirm benefits with the clinic before beginning treatment; requirements vary by plan.
